I do believe the number one way you will succeed in breastfeeding is through support and knowledge of what you are getting yourself into. For first time moms and even those who have been there before, breastfeeding can be a challenge so other moms, lactation consultations, and good books can really help you to keep going and get your through the toughest parts.I just recently had the opportunity to review the book Great Expectations: The Essential Guide to Breastfeeding by Marainne Neifert, MD. I very much wish I had this book with my daughter, Gracie, it would have really helped me as I began the rewarding journey into breastfeeding.
This candid, well written book is a great reference book. You do not have to read the book from beginning to end for it to be of great help. I love how Marainne Neifert addresses why you should breastfeed and then helps you prepare for it and then continues from there. Unlike some breastfeeding books out there, this book is concise and easy to read.
If you have problems with your milk supply, she will share with you the ways to address that problem. If you are like I was, struggling to feed a child who was a late pre-term baby (a baby born between 34 - 37 weeks), she will explain why you are struggling and what you can do to help. This book is filled with so much information that I did not receive with my first child - I am so glad that I was able to read this book right before my son was born. I was confident, ready, and assured that I would be able to breastfeed successfully after reading this book. If I did have some issues, I knew which book to pick up. This book isn't just for new moms but for any mom who would love to have a better breastfeeding experience. This book would also make an excellent baby shower gift.
If you would like to know more about Marianne Neifert, MD, be sure to visit her site - Dr. Mom. Her site is filled with valuable information on all aspects of parenting not just breastfeeding.
You can find this book at your local bookstore or on Amazon.com for about $14.95. It is well worth the investment you will make!
Since I loved this book so much, one reader will have the opportunity to win this book for themselves or for someone that they know can use this.
