If there is one thing that will help you in breastfeeding, it is having the right supplies to help make the whole nursing process easier for you and your new baby. There were a few things that helped me in my survival in nursing and there was one company that helped me the most.
Without my Medela Pump in Style, I really do not think that I would have survived nursing. There were times when the pain was so bad that the only thing I could do was pump. My daughter had to have milk somehow and since I wanted to be the one (not a formula can) who supplied this milk, I pumped.
The pump that I found to be the best at the time was the Medela Pump In Style. Unlike other pumps at the time, it was made to last. You could use this pump exclusively without worrying that it would burn out the motor. I have used other eletric pumps that start smelling as if you are burning out the motor. I also loved the let down ability in it as well as the power it has. I was easily able to express the milk that I needed quickly. Much faster than using a hand breast pump. It is also a dual pump so you can pump both sides at one time.
The down fall of the pump is the cost. This pump will cost you about $250. The benefit is that you are not paying for formula and will definitely recoup that cost if it is either the pump or go the route of formula. If you plan to pump a lot, I would highly recommend the Medela Pump In Style as will be much easier on you than a cheaper electric pump.
The other downfall to this pump is that is only made for one user. It has what is called an open system for its tubing so you should not share this pump with anyone else as it will void the warranty. It is possible for milk to go into the tubing (which I never saw with mine) and possibly contaminate the pump making it unhealthy for another mother/baby to use.
I tried many other products by Medela which I also loved. I will tell you more about some of those other products later this week. One product that I was recently sent by Medela to review was their Mid-Blue Sleep Bra. What I love about this bra, is that it feels like t-shirt material except a little softer and is perfect to sleep in.
Towards the end of your pregnancy and when you are nursing, sleeping with a bra is a necessity. One it allows you to "wear" nursing pads which will guard against leaks but it also offers the support that you will need for your growing breasts.
What I love about this bra is that it has no hooks! I wasn't sure about this but as you can see, it pulls down easily allowing you to nurse quickly without having to think in the middle of night about hooking the bra back together. I found that not only was this bra comfortable to wear at night but I found myself using it during the day because of how comfortable it was and the lack of hooks. The hooks can be complicated and you can forget about hooking thus not obtaining the proper coverage you might want or need.
You can purchase the bra in Mid-Blue (for a select period of time), White, or Nude for between $17.99 - $20.99. I personally love the Mid-Blue because it adds variety and is a little more fun than white and nude.
Medela has also been so generous as to offer one of my readers their own Mid-Blue Sleep Bra!

Disclosure: This review is based on my own opinion of the Medela Pump in Style and Medela Sleep Bra. You may or may not agree with my opinion. I was sent a Medela Mid-Blue Sleep Bra to review and keep. No one from Medela was involved in the writing of this post.
