Halo Blankets: Great SIDs Prevention Giveaway {Ends 11/30}

In July, Gabriel was born and when he was laid in my arms after a hard birth, an emergency c-section where the doctor was sure we had lost him, and an hour spent a part from him and my husband - I wanted to hold him and protect him forever.  I wanted to keep my "little man" from all harm and never let go.

He had that sweet, soft baby smell and was so alert just watching and listening to mommy.  When I received him, the nurses had clothed him and wrapped him in neat little SleepSack.  This sleep sack would later become my best friend, I just didn't know it yet!

After three days of being in the hospital, we were ready to come home.  However, Gabriel had be wrapped everyday in a Halo SleepSack which kept him swaddled so nicely.  This sleep sack made swaddling super easy - no special folding of blankets or making sure that everything was right.  It was just a matter of putting down his arms and folding the flaps over.  It also had a reminder of the front that sleeping on your back prevents SIDS.  We knew we were leaving the Halo SleepSack behind so my brother and sister-in-law gave us money to buy one and my husband ran down to the gift shop to grab one.  He came back with not only one but two!

We used these incredible blankets everyday for 2 months!  These were the best investment we could have ever made.  They helped him sleep well and kept him warm all the time.  They have been handed over to my sister-in-law who is expecting her first baby in just a few weeks.  I'm sure she will also find that she will get a girly one because every baby needs their own.  :-)

Information about Halo: Halo was founded by Bill Schmid, who began researching sleeping environments after he lost a daughter to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) in 1991. Since 1994, he and his company have worked to develop products that encourage healthier and safer sleeping as well as bring peace of mind to your home.

A percentage of HALO Innovations' profits are donated to First Candle/SIDS Alliance and the Canadian Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths to fund ongoing SIDS research, education and family support.

Halo is also working with hundreds of hospitals via our Standard of Care program to provide SleepSack Wearable Blankets and SleepSack Swaddles to NICU and nurseries and as gifts to new moms when they leave the hospital.

Halo has a great facebook fan page where you can learn more about how to prevent SIDS and learn more about Halo's products.  If you are concerned about SIDs, here are some great ways to prevent it:

1.  Place your baby to sleep on his or her back at naptime and night time.
2.  Use a safety approved crib with a firm, tight-fitting mattress.
3.  Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby's sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers and positioners).
4.  Use a SleepSack™ wearable blanket to replace loose blankets in your baby's crib.
5.  DO NOT put your baby to sleep on any soft surface (sofas, chairs, water beds, quilts, sheep skins, etc.).
6.  Room sharing is safer than bed sharing.
7.  DO NOT dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature between 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
8.  DO NOT let anyone smoke around your baby or be in a room where someone has recently smoked.
Educate relatives, baby sitters and other caregivers about these important safety tips.
9.  Tummy time is important for babies while they are awake and being supervised. Place your baby on his or her tummy for playtime to help strengthen their upper body muscles.

To purchase a Halo SleepSack or other Halo products, visit their online store.  They have some great products for all sizes and ages!  I am looking at a few for my 2 year old and some more for Gabriel now that he has out grown his!  If you give pajamas as Christmas presents, this would be a great gift idea.

I was sent a Blue Velour Halo Blanket to review but unfortunately it was too small so I am giving it away.  It is a blue NB size Halo SleepSack Swaddle blanket.
